El Paso, Texas – June 27, 2008 – With five road games already in the books this season and only one point to show for it, tonight’s game becomes very crucial for the Patriot’s team. This will be the first road test for Interim Head Coach, Javier McDonald since taking over the reins three weeks ago. Since then, the team has posted a 3-0-1 home record accounting for ten points. Ten points that was needed to keep the team’s play-off hopes alive in the Mid-South division.
“I believe the team is ready to get back out on the road and prove we can do it”, commented Coach McDonald. “We have had a great week of training and I am very confident in my players”. With only four games left on the schedule the Patriots definitely control their own destiny. Two games are against the first place team, Austin Aztex and one game against Laredo Heat who are currently tied in second with the Patriots.
The Patriots have really started to show progression over the past four home games. With the addition of Michael Griego the team has rallied and is putting goals away to finish needed games. “Now we just need to finish games on the road”, added McDonald.
“The coaching change was a difficult decision to make”, commented Vice-President Diana Cervantes. “Anytime you make a major change mid-season, you hope it works. But, you never know”. At this point, things seem to be working very well. The team is progressing nicely and all the players are much more positive both on and off the field. The Patriots will have a buy next week and will then travel to Mississippi to take on the Mississippi Brilla and then on to Laredo to play the Laredo Heat before returning home to play the Austin Aztex in their final regular season home game.
The Patriots will play Austin Aztex on Saturday night, July 19th at 7:30 pm. This is the first ever bobble head night. The first 1000 fans thru the gate will receive a bobble head of veteran player Enrique (Kiki) Cervantes. As with every Saturday home game there will be a free youth clinic from 6:00 – 6:30 pm.
