But Jonathan Camarena from Del Valle High School, Francisco De Anda from Americas and Cristian Zamora from Coronado have an opportunity of a lifetime.
The trio, who play for the El Paso Patriots, recieved news Tuesday that they will be traveling to Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, on Friday for workouts with the Chivas club.
Patriots club president Enrique Cervantes told the three about the good news.
"I had just recieved news from the Chivas club director about our players," said Cervantes. "It is a satisfaction for everyone in soccer, for the players, to be called by a professional team. It is a great opportunity for them."
Camarena was thrilled about the chance to workout with Chivas.
"When they came down and saw our game, they told us they would call us," he said. "It is something emotional, an opportunity that presented itself, and God willing (we can) take advantage of it."
Zamora said this trip is a dream come true for him, as well.
"This opportunity came when they saw us," said Zamora. "Thanks to God for the opportunity, and we’ll take advantage of it and hopefully make it."
De Anda also was excited when he heard the news that he and his teammates will be participating in the Chivas practice.
He, too, said he was happy and thanked God for the opportunity to get noticed by a Mexican pro team.
The boys will practice with Chivas this weekend, and they will not return to El Paso until Monday.
Vice president of the Patriots, Diana Cervantes, explained what this invitation means for the boys.
"A great opportunity for the players," she said. "And a good recommendation from the Patriots."
Cervantes added that these boys can go far in the sport, and that they possess the kind of skills at a young age that could earn them a callup in the future.
Also, such attention could benefit the team’s reputation for finding young talent.
Coach Hugo Samano of the Patriots said he was happy for his trio of young players.
"They were working with us since they were 15 years old," he said.
Enrique I. Cervantes, a player for the Patriots, also was happy for the boys.
"It’s exciting; a group of kids we have been working with, a great opportunity for them," he said. "Hopefully it goes well for them."
